Hampsfield Hall, Lancashire

Hampsfield Hall is a farmhouse in the Cartmel area of Lancashire. It was built around 1636 by William Thornburgh and sold to Robert Curwen of Cark. A grade II listed building, the two-storey gabled house is stone-built with a slate roof and retains many of its ancient features. On the hill-side about 60 yards above the house are the foundations of an older building and pele tower. It was demolished in 1814 when it was pulled down by the tenant in the absence of the owner and the materials used in the erection of new farm buildings. There are remains of a steading to the north-west. It is within the council area of Westmorland and Furness.
