Haggerston, Middlesex
Haggerston is a former hamlet that is now an urban area in the metropolitan district of Shoreditch, lying on the north-west fringe of the East End of London. Haggerston lay in the north of the ancient parish of Shoreditch, to the east of Ermine Street (Kinsgland Road). Haggerston remained rural until the 19th century, during which it was completely built up, becoming contiguous with Shoreditch. The astronomer Edmund Halley was born in Haggerston in 1656. The Kray Twins were born in Haggerston in 1933. The area is within the council area of Hackney.
