Gunner's Box, Northumberland

Gunner's Box is a rectangular Iron Age earthwork in Northumberland. Located in Harwood Forest about five miles to the south-west of Rothbury. It is situated on the summit of a hill about 1,050 feet above sea level. The settlement, rectangular in shape, is 180 feet east-west by 190 feet north-south, within three ramparts of earth and stone separated by two ditches. All three ramparts are very well preserved and are on average three feet high and 20 feet wide. The ditches are between 20 to 30 feet wide and are on average three feet deep. It is within the council area of Northumberland.
