Great Yarmouth, Norfolk / Suffolk
Great Yarmouth is a seaside resort on the east coast of Norfolk. The town was a major fishing port for hundreds of years and has been a tourist resort since 1760. The main town lies in Norfolk, on a thin spit sandwiched between the North Sea and River Yare, and is home to the historic rows and the main tourist sector on the seafront. The Tollhouse is said to be the oldest civic building in Britain. In the South Denes area is the Norfolk Naval Pillar, known locally as Nelson's Monument, a tribute to Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson completed in 1819. The Southtown and Cobholm Island areas lie west of the River Yare in Suffolk, as does the village-turned-suburb of Bradwell. The town is within the council area of Great Yarmouth (Norfolk).
