MenuGray's Monument, Buckinghamshire
Gray's Monument is a monument to Thomas Gray, author of Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard, standing near St Giles’ Church, where Grey is buried, in Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire. The monument was commissioned by John Penn, designed by James Watt and erected in 1799. Villagers bought the surrounding land (now known as Gray’s Field) in the early 1920s and gave it to the National Trust. The monument comprises a large stone pedestal with panels inscribed with verses from Gray's 'Elegy'. It is within the council area of Buckinghamshire.
