Gospel Oak, Middlesex
Gospel Oak is a metropolitan district between Kentish Town and Hampstead in Middlesex, forming part of the north-western suburbs of London. The name reputedly derives from an oak tree marking the boundary between the parishes of Hampstead and St Pancras, under which a host of legendary figures are said to have preached. The area was developed from the mid 19th century. St Martin's Church (1866), described by Pevsner as "the craziest of London’s Victorian churches", is notable for its pinnacles which make it resemble a fairy-tale castle. All Hallows Church (1901) is a vast hall-style church, designed by James Brooks in the early English Gothic style. The area is within the council area of Camden.
