Gosford Castle, Armagh
Gosford Castle is a 19th-century Norman revival style country house in the townland of Gosford Demesne, near the village of Markethill, County Armagh. The Acheson family were granted land during the Plantation and established the village of Markethill and built a castle, destroyed during the Rebellion of 1641. A manor house, now ruined, was built in its place. The current house was built between 1819-1859, commissioned by the 2nd Earl of Gosford and designed by architect Thomas Hopper. The family sold the castle after the Second World War. In 2006 it was converted into private dwellings. The house is within the council area of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon.
