Goole, Yorkshire
Google is a port town on the River Ouse in Yorkshire, in the West Riding. Goole's origins lie in the diversion of the River Don northwards to the River Ouse by Dutch engineer Cornelius Vermuyden in 1626-1629. It became possible to transfer coal by barge to the tidal River Ouse along the new lower Don (the "Dutch River"). The area now known as Old Goole was formed on the Ouse, south of Dutch River. The larger part of present-day Goole, north of the Dutch River, was developed from 1824 alongside a massive development of the docks and the construction of the Knottingley and Goole Canal. This part of the town was originally known as New Goole. The town is within the council area of East Riding of Yorkshire.
