Golden Valley, Herefordshire

The Golden Valley is the name given to the valley of the River Dore in western Herefordshire, England. The valley is a picturesque area of gently rolling countryside. It lies in the lee of the Black Mountains. The main villages are Dorstone, Peterchurch, Abbey Dore and Ewyas Harold. Arthur's Stone is a Neolithic chamber tomb. Dore Abbey is a former Cistercian monastery and present-day parish church. Snodhill Castle is a very early Norman stone fortification. Ewyas Harold Castle is an early Norman motte-and-bailey castle. Owain Glyndŵr is said to have spent his final years hiding under an alternative identity in the Golden Valley with his daughter, Alys Scudamore and her husband Sir John Scudamore. The valley is within the council area of County of Herefordshire.
