Godwick, Norfolk

Godwick is a deserted mediæval village near Tittleshall in Norfolk. First settled in the Anglo-Saxon period, Godwick was virtually deserted by the end of the 16th century. The earthworks are well preserved since the site has been grazed by sheep since its desertion. In 1585 Sir Edward Coke built Godwick Manor within the village site, now too seen only as earthworks. Godwick Great Barn from the same period is extant, now used as a venue for weddings and events. Part of the 13th-century church tower remains, though to have been rebuilt as a folly during the 17th century. The village site is within the council area of Breckland (Norfolk).
Historic England Scheduled Monument 1002889.
