Glengormley, Antrim
Glengormley is a former village that is now a suburban area in Newtownabbey, County Antrim. It is within the townlands of Glengormly and Collinward, in the civil parish of Carnmoney. The original settlement grew up in the mid-19th century, around a junction of the roads linking Belfast with Antrim (A6) and Ballyclare (B56). From Victorian times to the 1930s, Glengormley was a popular leisure destination for Belfast folk, noted for it dance hall and Bellevue Pleasure Gardens. Following the establishment of the new town of Newtownabbey in 1958 the village has become a large suburban area, though still centred around the main junction. The suburban area is within the council area of Antrim and Newtownabbey.
