Gilnahirk, Down

Gilnahirk is a former village that is now an urban area in east Belfast, County Down. It is within the townlands of Gilnahirk, Gortgrib and Tullycarnet, in the civil parish of Knockbreda. Until the mid 20th century, Gilnahirk remained a small village, clustered around Gilnahirk Presbyterian Church (1787), at the north end of Gilnahirk townland. The village now lies at the edge of the urban area around Belfast, with the urban area north and west of the village also being known as Gilnahirk. The area is within the council area of Belfast.
