Forest Hill, Kent
Forest Hill is an urban area at the northern end of the metropolitan district of Sydenham, Kent. Dartmouth Arms railway station was opened in 1839, to the east of Forest Hill itself (along which runs the Kent-Surrey border). The station was renamed Forest Hill for Lordship Lane in 1845 and the Forest Hill area grew around the station. Development was further encouraged by the moving of the Crystal Palace to Sydenham Hill in 1854. Forest Croft and Taymount Grange are 1930s Art Deco mansion blocks. The Horniman Musuem was developed by tea merchant Frederick Horniman to house his collection of natural history artefacts. The area is within the council area of Lewisham.
