Foots Cray, Kent
Foots Cray is a suburban village to the south-east of Sidcup, Kent. It lies where the Maidstone to London road crosses the River Cray. The name supposedly derives from the river and from Godwin Fot, the Saxon landowner as recorded in Domesday. The arrival of the Sidcup by-pass in the 1930s saw large areas to the south and east of the village developed for industry, alongside some suburban housing development. The 14th-century church of All Saints lies on the edge of Foots Cray Meadows, a large area of parkland and woodland which was the site of Palladian mansion Foots Cray Place (demolished 1950). The village is within the council area of Bexley.
