Fitzrovia, Middlesex
Fitzrovia is a metropolitan district in Middlesex, forming part of the West End of London. Fitzrovia has its origins in the manor of Tottenham Court, which occupied the south-western part of the parish of St Pancras. The area was developed by Charles Fitzroy, lord of the manor, during the late 18th century. Fitzroy Square (1798) was designed by Robert Adams. The origin of the name 'Fitzrovia' to describe the area is unclear but appears to have been in use by the 1920s. Fitzrovia has long had a reputation as an artistic and bohemian centre. The area is within the council areas of Camden and Westminster.
