Fishponds, Gloucestershire
Fishponds is a large suburban village, forming a north-eastern suburb of Bristol, in Gloucestershire. Formerly part of the Royal Forest of Kingswood, the village is first recorded as 'Newe Pooles' in 1610. By the 17th century it was a thriving village with numerous stone-built cottages for miners and quarrymen. It became a centre of manufacturing from the 19th century. It expanded further with suburban development in the 20th century and is now contiguous with the neighbouring settlements of Staple Hill and Ridgeway. The village is within the council area of Bristol.
