Faversham Abbey, Kent

Faversham Abbey is a former monastery (the Royal Abbey of St Saviour) at Faversham, Kent. It was founded by King Stephen and his wife Matilda of Boulogne in 1148. The Abbey was the burial place of King Stephen, Queen Matilda, and their eldest son, Eustace IV of Boulogne. The monastery was considerably destroyed at the Dissolution. It now lies with the ground of Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School. Faversham Abbey Major Barn and Faversham Abbey Minor Barn have survived from the abbey's buildings. The monument is within the council area of Swale (Kent).
