Farnworth, Lancashire
Farnworth is a town in Lancashire, standing beside the River Croal to the north and the River Irwell to the east. Previously a hamlet, The town expanded rapidly in the 18th and 19th centuries around the coal mining industry. From 1899, for local government purposes, it was the basis of the Farnworth urban district, becoming a municipal borough from 1939-1974. Farnworth Town Hall (1909) is in the neoclassical style and built in red brick with stone dressings. Farnworth's Carnegie Library (1911) is constructed of red brick with flat roof surrounding a central dome. The town is within the council area of Bolton.
