Fair Rosamund's Well, Oxfordshire
Fair Rosamund's Well is a well in the grounds of Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire. The well, previously known as Everswell, has been known as Fair Rosamund's Well since the 16th century. It is named from Rosamund Clifford, mistress of Henry II. In English folklore, the king saw Rosamund only in the middle of a complicated underground labyrinth in the park of Woodstock Palace. Following rumours, the queen made her way through the labyrinth and confronted her rival, forcing her to choose between a dagger and a bowl of poison. Rosamund chose the poison and died. The well is within the council area of West Oxfordshire (Oxfordshire).
