Extwistle Hall, Lancashire

Extwistle Hall is a mansion which stands high on Extwistle Moor in Briercliffe, Burnley in Lancashire. It was built in 1585 in the Tudor style by the Parker family. Robert Parker had bought the land, which had previously belonged to Kirkstall Abbey, in 1537 after the Dissolution of the Monasteries. The Parker family occupied it before moving to Cuerden Hall around 1718 when the family patriarch lost his life in the blaze. The house was remodelled in the late 18th century. Extwistle Hall has not been occupied for decades and is in a state of dilapidation. It was once earmarked for a £2m restoration to bring it back to its original splendour in early 2012, but these plans never materialised. It is listed in English Heritage's 'Heritage at Risk' Register. It is a Grade II listed building. It is within the council area of Burnley (Lancashire).
