Essex Bridge, Staffordshire
Essex Bridge is a 16th-century packhorse bridge across the River Trent, linking Shugborough Hall to Great Haywood, Staffordshire. Essex Bridge is said to have been commissioned by Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex, a favourite of Queen Elizabeth I, to give a more direct route for the Queen to visit him at nearby Chartley Castle. It is within the council area of Stafford (Staffordshire).
