Enniskillen Castle, Fermanagh
Enniskillen Castle is a castle, originally built in the 15th century, situated beside the River Erne in the town of Enniskillen, County Fermanagh. Hugh Maguire built the first castle at Enniskillen in 1428. It has been considerably extended and remodelled subsequently. Guarding one of the few passes into Ulster, the castle was strategically important throughout its history. In the 17th century it became an English garrison fort and served as part of a military barracks until 1950. The monument is within the council area of Fermanagh and Omagh.
