Eltham, Kent
Eltham is a suburban town in Kent. Eltham was a parish from ancient times. The village developed on the road from London to Maidstone. Eltham Palace was given to Edward II in 1305 by the Bishop of Durham and used as a royal residence from the 14th to the 16th century. The Great Hall built by Edward IV in the 1470s survives, alongside a magnificent 1930s Art Deco extension. Eltham remained a large village into the 20th century, during the first half of which it saw large-scale suburban development. The town is within the council area of Greenwich.
