Eglish Crosses, Armagh

Eglish Crosses are a pair of ancient stone crosses located within the graveyard of a ruined early 18th-century church, in the townland of Eglish, County Armagh. The North Cross has an ancient base and head, though the shaft is new and the head has been repaired. The head has an unpierced ring and decoration in a circular frame at the crossing on both faces: bossed spirals to the south and fine all-over interlace to the north. Only part of the head of the South Cross survives. The crosses may date from the late 9th or 10th century, suggesting that this may have been the site of an important early church. The monument is in the care of the Department for Communities. The monument is within the council area of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon.
