Edge Hill, Lancashire

Edge Hill is an urban area in Liverpool, Lancashire. It lies south-east of the city centre. Many of the original Georgian houses still survive. Edge Hill Station (1836), which retains its original buildings, is one of the oldest railways station in the world. The Williamson Tunnels are a series of extensive subterranean excavations thought to have been created under the direction of tobacco merchant Joseph Williamson between 1810 and 1840, though there purpose is unclear. Edge Hill is within the council area of Liverpool.
