Ebrington, Londonderry

Ebrington is an urban area in the Waterside area of Londonderry, County Londonderry. It is within the townland of Clooney, in the civil parish of Clondermot. Ebrington Barracks were built in 1841, on the river shore to the north of the then urban extent of the Waterside area and south of the St Columb's estate (now St Columb's Park). The area around the barracks was developed from the late 19th century and also became known as Ebrington. Ebrington Presbyterian Church dates from 1897. The Barracks played a major role in the Allied War efforts. They eventually closed in 2003 and have been redeveloped as a leisure and outdoor event venue called Ebrington Square. Since 2011 Ebrington has been directly connected to the city centre via the pedestrian and cycle Peace Bridge. The area is within the council area of Derry City and Strabane.
