East Kilbride, Lanarkshire

East Kilbride is a large town in Lanarkshire, designated as Scotland's first new town in 1947. The area lies on a raised plateau to the south of the Cathkin Braes. The original village of east Kilbride (known as "the Village") lies north of the modern town centre. The town is within the council area of South Lanarkshire.
