Durrington Walls, Wiltshire
Durrington Walls is a large Neolithic henge monument located alongside the River Avon at Durrington, Wiltshire. It is the largest known henge enclosure in England, being roughly circular in shape with an overall diameter of about 535yrds north-south and 510yds east-west. The name of the monument refers to the fact that today only the 'walls' – the eroded remains of the inner slope of the bank and the outer slope of the internal ditch - are visible. Its relationship to the many other prehistoric sites in the area is the subject of much debate and conjecture. The monument is within the council area of Wiltshire.
