Dukinfield, Cheshire

Dukinfield is a town in Cheshire. It stands on the south bank of the River Tame, opposite Ashton-under-Lyne. The town developed during Industrial Revolution as a centre for coal mining and cotton manufacturing. From 1899-1974, for local government purposes, the town formed the basis of the Dukinfield municipal borough. Dukinfield Town Hall (1901) was designed in the Gothic style and built in red brick. The town is within the council area of Tameside.
