Dukestown, Brecknockshire

Dukestown is a former mining village lying at the head of the Sirhowy valley in Brecknockshire. It was formed as a cluster of colliers' and miners' cottages around the Dukes pit (sunk in 1806), named after the Duke of Beaufort, the landowner. It is now sometimes considered part of the northern urban fringe of the town of Tredegar. It is within the council area of Blaenau Gwent.
