Duffield Castle, Derbyshire

Duffield Castle is the remains of a Norman castle in Duffield, Derbyshire. The castle site is on a rocky promontory facing the River Derwent. The castle was first built by Henry de Ferrers soon after the Conquest. It was rebuilt in stone after 1173. The castle was razed to the ground around 1269 after Robert de Ferrers failed rebellion against Henry III. The site is in the care of the National Trust. It is within the council area of Amber Valley (Derbyshire).
