Drumaness, Down
Drumaness is a village, lying on the Cumber River in County Down. It is within the townlands of Drumaness and Cumber, in the civil parish of Magheradrool. Drumaness developed as a mill village from around 1850, with the opening of a spinning mill on the banks of the River Cumber. The mill closed in 1968, since when the village has seen substantial expansion as a commuter village. The Dan Rice Hall, built in 1850 and originally a canteen for the employees of Hurst’s linen mill, has been converted into a community centre. The village is within the council area of Newry, Mourne and Down.
