Downend, Gloucestershire
Downend is a suburban village in Gloucestershire. The cricketer W. G. Grace was born at his parents' home, Downend House, in 1848. The village saw large-scale suburban development from the early 20th century and is now contiguous with the surrounding villages of Staple Hill, Mangotsfield and Bromley Heath. The village is within the council area of South Gloucestershire.
