Dovercourt, Essex
Dovercourt is a seaside resort town in Essex. The ancient parish and village of Dovercourt date from Saxon times. All Saints Church became a place of pilgrimage in the 1400s after the wooden cross on its rood screen was said to have spoken on several occasions. The area near the sea, then known as Lower Dovercourt, was developed as a seaside resort from 1845 by John Bagshaw. The town is now contiguous with Harwick to its north-east. The town is within the council area of Tendring (Essex).
