Dove Cottage, Westmorland
Dove Cottage is an early 17th-century house in Westmorland. For over 170 years it was an inn called the ‘Dove and Olive’. It closed in 1793 and became the home of the famous poet William Wordsworth from December 1799 to May 1808, where he wrote much of the poetry for which he is remembered today. The Wordsworth Trust has kept the cottage open to the public since July 1891. As a tourist attraction, Dove Cottage receives approximately 70,000 visitors a year. The house is a Grade I listed building and remains largely unchanged from Wordsworths day. It is within the council area of Westmorland and Furness.
