Double Dykes is an Iron Age defensive earthwork, situated on the coastal promontory of Hengistbury Head, overlooking Christchurch Harbour, Hampshire. Around 700 BC, a settlement on the Head was established. The headland was cut off from the mainland by the construction of two banks and ditches now called the Double Dykes. These defences turned Hengistbury Head into a fortified settlement area which eventually grew to be an important port. The site is within the council area of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
