Double Dikes, Yorkshire
Double Dikes is a prehistoric boundary dyke near Sproxton, Yorkshire, in the North Riding. Double Dikes is formed by a ditch with flanking banks, the dike as a whole having width of about 48ft. Double Dikes has been interpreted as the south-easternmost component of the Cleave Dyke complex of dykes, which is believed to have been constructed between the Late Bronze Age and the Iron Age to augment the natural division of the terrain by river valleys and watersheds. The monument is within the council area of North Yorkshire.
