It was given to the National Trust by Lord Courtauld-Thomson in 1947 as a grace-and-favour country home for a senior member of the Government, a role it continues to fulfil. The grounds are noted for their cottage and kitchen garden, as well as their herbaceous borders and rose displays. The property is within the council area of Buckinghamshire.
