Dorfold Hall, Cheshire

Dorfold Hall is a brick and stone gabled Jacobean mansion at Acton, Cheshire. The hall was considered by Pevsner to be one of the two finest Jacobean houses in the county and has mostly remained in the same family for over 400 years. A manor at Dorfold is recorded in the 13th century and the estate was purchased in 1602 by Sir Roger Wilbraham and was constructed in 1616–1621 on the site of the earlier hall. The grounds of the hall were remodelled in 1861–1862, with the construction of several buildings including the gate lodge. More recently during the Second World War it housed refugees and soldiers. It also hosts the annual Nantwich and South Cheshire Show. It is within the council area of Cheshire East.
