Donaghcloney, Down

Donaghcloney (aka Donacloney) is a village, lying on the River Lagan in County Down. It is within the townland of Donaghcloney, in the civil parish of Donaghcloney. The village grew from the mid 18th century alongside the linen industry. William Liddell & Co opened a large weaving factory here in 1866, the factory finally closing in 2002. The current St Patrick's Church (C of I) was consecrated in 1980, having been converted from the Liddell Memorial School ( 1903). Donaghcloney Cemetery is the site of the long since ruined former parish church, reputedly on a site established by St Patrick in the 6th century. The village is within the council area of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon.
