Doddington Hall, Lincolnshire

Doddington Hall is an Elizabethan prodigy house in Doddington, Lincolnshire, in the Parts of Kesteven. The mansion is complete with walled courtyards and a gabled gatehouse. Originally built for Thomas Tailor, registrar of the Diocese of Lincoln, Doddington’s mellow brick exterior with its walled courtyards has barely changed since it was completed in 1600. However, in 1749, the Hall was inherited by John Delaval of Seaton Delaval in Northumberland and he carried out an extensive internal redecoration, incorporating the light and elegant Georgian style still seen today. The hall's contents, including textiles, ceramics, porcelain, Flemish tapestries, furniture and pictures, reflect 400 years of unbroken family occupation. A temple designed by Antony Jarvis in 1973 stands in the gardens. Outdoor theatre and sculpture exhibitions are also held in the gardens. Other businesses have been developed on the estate such as a farm shop, home store, country clothing shop, bicycle shop, two cafés, a tea room, restaurant, holiday cottages, weddings and the sale of Christmas trees. It is within the council area of North Kesteven (Lincolnshire).
