Dewsbury, Yorkshire
Dewsbury is a minster town in Yorkshire, in the West Riding. It stands on the River Calder and an arm of the Calder and Hebble Navigation. Dewsbury Minster stands near the Calder, traditionally on the site where Paulinus, first Bishop of York, preached in 627. Dewsbury market was established in the 14th century. Dewsbury became a major mill town in the 19th century. The majority of the town's older buildings are built in Yorkshire stone. The town is within the council area of Kirklees.
