Devorgilla Bridge, Dumfriesshire / Kirkcudbrightshire

Devorgilla Bridge is a 15th-century bridge, with much later rebuilding and alteration, crossing the River Nith linking Dumfries, Dumfriesshire with Maxwelltown, Kirkcudbrightshire. The bridge is believed to have replaced an earlier timber bridge, usually attributed to Devorgilla Baliol, foundress of Sweetheart Abbey in the late 13th century. The bridge is built of local red sandstone and features a combination of pointed Gothic and semi-circular arches. At the western end of the bridge stands the Old Bridge House, a 17th-century building, later a museum. The bridge is within the council area of Dumfries and Galloway.
