Deepdene House, Surrey

Deepdene House is a historic estate near Dorking, Surrey. The house itself, built in the mid 17th century, was demolished in 1969 and replaced by office buildings, the end of a saga described by Pevsner as a "disgraceful and depressing story". Thanks to the Dorking and Leith Hill Preservation Society the terrace and much of the gardens, first laid out by Charles Howard in the 1650s, were saved. The site is within the council area of Mole Valley (Surrey).
