Deal, Kent

Deal is a coastal town in Kent. The village of Deal (now known as Upper Deal) dates from Norman times. The area around the coast (Lower Deal) was gradually developed from the 16th century. William III granted the town of Deal its Charter of Incorporation in 1699. Due to its position on the Downs roadstead, the town grew to become a major port. Today it is a seaside resort. Its finest building is the Tudor Deal Castle, commissioned by King Henry VIII and designed with an attractive rose floor plan. The town is within the council area of Dover (Kent).
