Darwen, Lancashire
Darwen is a market town in Lancashire. It stands on the River Darwen to the south of Blackburn, among the West Pennine Moors. Formerly a major mill town, it is famous for the visit of Mohandas K Gandhi in 1931. The Darwen Jubilee Tower (1898) overlooks the town. The Market Hall was opened in 1882 and the clock tower added in 1899. The town is within the council area of Blackburn with Darwen.
