Darshill, Somerset
Darshill is a historic hamlet located in the steep-sided valley of the River Sheppey, just west of Shepton Mallet, Somerset. It played a key part in the textile industry of the area, with several large mills along the river. During the 19th century, following the decline of wool, the hamlet became a centre for silk and crepe production. A notable survival of this era is the Handle House, a rare ventilated brick building used for drying teasels (or "handles") to brush the nap of the cloth. The hamlet is within the council area of Somerset.
