Dalston Hall, Cumberland
Dalston Hall is a fortified 15th-century house in Cumberland. It consisted of a Peel Tower and a baronial hall and belonged to the Dalston family for many generations. During the Siege of Carlisle, Sir George Dalston was forced to flee Dalston Hall when General Leslie requisitioned it as the Covenantor headquarters. In 1761 it was bought by Monkhouse Davison, a London grocer, who continued to own it for 32 years until he died. It was acquired in 1897 by Edmund Wright Stead who commissioned an extensive refurbishment of the interior, together with the construction of the entrance side of the building. Prior to Dalston Hall becoming a hotel in 1971 it was used as a youth training centre. It is within the council area of Cumberland.
