Culcavy, Down
Culcavy is a village in County Down. It is within the townland of Culcavy, in the civil parish of Blaris. The area was the site of the Hillsborough Distillery in the early 19th century. This closed in 1865 and the site became a large linen factory, which itself closed in 1966. A small settlement had developed near the distillery but even by the early 20th century this had not grown significantly. Since the closing of the mill, the village has become a suburban area, popular for residential development due to its proximity to Hillsborough. The village is within the council area of Lisburn and Castlereagh.
