Crouch End, Middlesex
Crouch End is a former hamlet that is now a suburban area in Hornsey, Middlesex. The hamlet of Crouch End grew up in Hornsey parish to the south of the village of Hornsey, at the junction of four locally important roads - the 'crouch' (i.e. cross) may refer to the crossroads or to a wooden cross placed here. The area became rapidly developed after the opening of Crouch End and Crouch Hill railways stations in the 1960s, becoming part of the developing town of Hornsey. The red-brick Clock Tower (1895) on the Broadway is a much-loved icon of Crouch End. Hornsey Town Hall (1935), designed by Reginald Uren, was among the first Modernist buildings in the UK. The area is within the council area of Haringey.
